Following the Final Conference held in Tarragona on 22 February, the PSYCOACH Handbook is now publicly available as the open legacy of the Erasmus+ Sport project. A practical guide on applied sport psychology for coaching, built over 24 months of cooperation among four organisations from Portugal, Italy and Spain.
What is the PSYCOACH Handbook?
The Handbook is the complete guide of the PSYCOACH course: the document that gathers the contents of the five training modules developed during the project, with theoretical framework, practical tools and proposals for direct application to coaches’ daily work. It is addressed to sport coaches, trainers, coaching organisations and sport psychology professionals who want to integrate the psychological dimension into their practice.
The 5 modules
- Understanding the athlete: How the coach can better understand athletes, identifying their needs, motivations and key aspects of attitude.
- Sport performance and psychological skills: Definition of sport performance and the psychological skills needed to achieve it, with practical strategies to develop them.
- Effective communication: Communication techniques the coach can apply to improve interaction with athletes and team performance.
- Tools for conscious coaching: Intervention procedure based on Joan Vives’ consciousness chain, with practical tools to improve attention and focus.
- Opening the door to inclusion: How sport and the coach can foster inclusive environments, with strategies so that every athlete feels valued and supported.

The Handbook is available in open access as a PDF, ready to read or download.
A legacy for European coaches
